Sore from the gym? Take an Active Recovery day

Should I go to the gym or take a rest day? Yesterday’s workout was brutal. You woke up and the stairs looked like they always do. Then you took that first step down. Suddenly the stairs became longer and farther apart, sort of like the hallway in The Shining.

Do you turn around and go back to bed? Do you go down the stairs and right back to the gym to do a max back squat? Actually neither.

What you might need is an active recovery day. Active recovery is spending time doing some low impact activity/exercise. This will promote blood flow to your muscles and can help reduce inflammation. It also reduces the lactic acid build up in your muscles that can cause stiffness and discomfort.

Just Move

If you sit too long your body will become stiff, and you’ll be in more pain than you were when you were staring down the stairs!
