Vision 2020: Nutrition, Exercise, and Mind

Imagine 4 tops spinning…  What happens when you focus your energy to keep one, or even two, continuously spinning on your own?  One of them are bound to stop and fall.

There are 4 well known areas that complete us as a whole human.  If we let one or more areas fall, the whole house crumbles.  These areas are Nutrition, Exercise, Mind and Sleep.

Northglenn Health and Fitness would like to help you with all of these areas.  We have recently aligned ourselves in a way to be better positioned to do that.

Nutrition

What we put in our body either fuels disease or prevents it.  Picture your body like a car.  If you put proper fuel in your car it will run, if you put Twinkies in your car it won’t run.

If that is all true, then why don’t we all follow a good nutrition plan?

How could you?  There is so much information to be found online and most of it contradicts itself.  I googled “Are grapes bad for you?”  Survey says… YES, according to search results.

Grapes are delicious and easy to eat but be aware of your serving size. If you eat too many in one sitting, the calories and carbs will add up fast. This may negate any health benefits and increase your risk of weight gain. Grapes contain natural sugar, but they’re considered a low glycemic index (GI) food.

How about instead of navigating the internet to find a good nutrition plan, and what foods to eat before or after a work out, you get yourself a nutrition coach!  Introducing Coach Stephanie to Northglenn Health and Fitness’s Nutrition Program.  Besides being our Kids CrossFit coach, Stephanie is a married mother of 2 kids as well as a nurse.  She can meet with you, go over your goals, and get you a plan that works for your lifestyle.  Besides nutrition we can also get you a clear picture of your body fat and muscle mass with our new InBody (no more guessing!) It takes only 15 seconds and no undressing is needed!

Exercise

CrossFit is a way to prepare your body to for the work required in every day life.  The movements are not about moving weights on a machine from one place to another.  They are about moving your body in a way to will keep you stronger and safer in functional ways.  CrossFit is widely known as “Functional Fitness”.

Yoga might seem like it fits mostly in the area of calm and stress relief, see Mind below, but did you know it is very complimentary to CrossFit?  Yoga can gradually increase your range of motion, improve your balance, as well as increase your mobility.  Why is a CrossFit gym talking about Yoga?  See below…

Mind

Work, chores, school, kids, laundry (ugh how I loathe thee), how can you keep a calm mind with so many things you have thrown at you?

Ever need a way to zen out?  Why don’t you try YOGA!  Yoga is great to improve focus, help you relax, slow your breathing and focus on the present.  Starting in March Northglenn Health and Fitness, will be offering Yoga.  Coach Laura will be putting your mind at ease!

Sleep

Sleep is necessary to help all areas of your body.  Good nutrition, Good exercise and a calm mind can all have a positive impact on your sleep.

These are all quotes from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute:

Sleep plays an important role in your physical health. For example, sleep is involved in healing and repair of your heart and blood vessels.

Sleep helps your brain work properly. While you’re sleeping, your brain is preparing for the next day. It’s forming new pathways to help you learn and remember information.

Sleep helps maintain a healthy balance of the hormones that make you feel hungry (ghrelin) or full (leptin). When you don’t get enough sleep, your level of ghrelin goes up and your level of leptin goes down. This makes you feel hungrier than when you’re well-rested.

As you can see all four of these tops spin together, and feed off of eachother.  Get all 3 tops aligned with Northglenn Health and Fitness and your fourth top (Sleep) might just spin on its own!
