The True Value of Fitness: Beyond the Scale at Northglenn Health and Fitness

How is that scale treating you? Are you letting it determine your value, or the value of fitness?

If you are like most women, you are letting the scale affect your outlook on the day. You are letting it dictate how you feel. It is determining your mood and therefore your actions.

It’s time to stop. It’s time to talk about something crucial in our fitness journeys – the real value of fitness.

Fitness: More Than Just Weight Loss

When we talk about the value of fitness, it’s easy to default to thinking about weight loss. But here’s a truth bomb: your fitness level isn’t a direct reflection of your weight. Sure, shedding pounds can be a part of your fitness journey, but it’s not the whole story.

Fitness is about feeling strong, having more energy, and improving your overall health. It’s about how you move, how you feel each day, and how you interact with the world around you. It’s about reducing pain, preventing injuries, and enhancing your quality of life.

Everyday Benefits of Fitness

Think about the little things in life – climbing stairs without getting winded, playing with your kids, or carrying groceries with ease. These everyday activities are directly impacted by your fitness level. It’s not just about looking good; it’s about living better. After all, you stand on the scale for 10 seconds, you “live” all day everyday.

When you focus on fitness, you’re investing in your daily well-being. You’re reducing the risk of chronic diseases, improving your mental health, and building a body that’s more resilient to the stresses of life.

Shifting the Focus

So, how do we shift our focus from the narrow goal of weight loss to the broader, more enriching value of fitness?

Start by setting goals that aren’t tied to the scale. Think about strength, flexibility, endurance, and how you feel in your body. Remember, fitness is a personal journey. It’s about finding activities you love, setting realistic goals, and celebrating the small victories along the way.

It’s about creating a lifestyle that sustains your body and mind.

What Happens when we Embrace the True Value of Fitness

As we continue on our fitness paths, let’s remember the true value of fitness. It’s not just about weight loss; it’s about enhancing our overall quality of life. Let’s celebrate every step of our journey, not just the numbers on the scale.

Remember, noticing how you feel after your strength sessions, after eating a plate of lean meat and colorful veggies VS how you feel after sitting on the couch all day or eating 3 donuts. The scale might not be different but you feel different based on choices. The fitness level you are at, will continue to grow as long as you continue to show up for yourself. And that is what has a direct impact on how you feel every day.

So, let’s keep moving, keep striving, and most importantly, keep enjoying the journey towards a healthier, happier you! Stay strong and keep thriving!

Here’s a post I wrote a while back that still applies if you are looking at getting started.
