The goal of the 5K running program at Northglenn Health and Fitness is to prepare you for your first, or your 61st, 5K.
Why is it important to run?
Well rounded athleticism is important! In the world of CrossFit, running is typically low on the list of “favorite activities”. That point is made overwhelmingly evident when a small handful of people show up when longer runs are programmed.
If there’s a movement/exercise that we do that makes you cringe and want to find any way you can to get out of doing it, it’s a good sign that you need to practice it more. The idea of CrossFit is to train for a more functional, fitter lifestyle that can be used in your everyday life. Running needs to be included regularly and properly trained. It’s a great way to get your heart pumping, lungs working, and to learn to push through your mental barriers.
Who is it for?
This program is for anyone that’s looking to get out there and do a 5k. Whether you walk, run, jog or crawl across the finish line, we will be able to help prepare your legs, lungs and heart for this journey. No CrossFit experience needed. You just need a strong desire to success, a good attitude and a pair of shoes!
What will we be doing?
Of course we’ll be running! But there’s so much more to it than just getting out there and running a 5K everyday until race day. (Much more than what is in the video below) We’ll be doing some strength and conditioning, interval training mixed some other fun stuff to keep you on your toes. (See what I did there?) Most of all we will be focusing on your form and technique in a positive, encouraging group setting.
