Meet Coach Brad: From Seeking a Coach to Becoming a Coach

“Look well into thyself; there is a source of strength which will always spring up if thou wilt always look.” – Marcus Aurelius.

These words are a guiding light for Coach Brad, a member of the Northglenn Health and Fitness (NHF) team, whose personal story is a powerful example of what can change for your life if you decide enough is enough and set your sites on more. Brad’s path from struggling with weight and depending on medications, to losing over 200lbs. and becoming the coach we all need, this is a must read for those of you who might feel alone in your personal struggle.

What made you want to be a fitness coach?

“The version of myself 200+ lbs ago wouldn’t be capable of doing certain exercises.” Coach Brad wanted to push his limits, and challenge himself. That challenge, led him to where he is today.

He had to develop a passion to learn about fitness to get where he is. He had a lot of help from coaches in his journey to gain this knowledge and now he wants to be somebody’s resource and to pay that forward. “I’ve had a lot of coaching, I believe in the power of coaching and I the best way for me to thank the people that I’ve had in my journey is to pay that forward.”

How would you describe your personal experience with fitness?

“Even though I grew up playing sports throughout my childhood and began strength training in my early teens, my entire life I’ve struggled with my weight and the disease of obesity.

“As I entered my early adult years, I paid less attention to my health and developed poor lifestyle habits that caused me to become my heaviest weight and diagnosed with high blood pressure. That all changed in 2020, when I made the commitment to focus on nutrition and fitness.

“I was nervous, I was scared, and I doubted myself, but I remained disciplined and consistent in my attempts to improve my health. I began to fall in love with going to the gym, challenging myself, and enjoyed seeing improvements in strength as well as body composition.

“Today I am proud to say that the lifestyle changes I have made contributed to losing over 200lbs. Something that was always a big emphasis for me was body composition (not just weight loss) my body fat has decreased into the normal range. And throughout this I have kept my lean muscle mass and I am most proud of being able to maintain strength throughout my weight loss journey. I was also on numerous blood pressure medications and I am proud to say I am on none now.”

What is your Coaching Style?

“Empathetic and also Optimistic. I believe in our athletes and what they are capable of achieving. I will help them get their mindset so they can believe in themselves and then they can see what they are capable of.”

Brad has been where a lot of you are or have been in your own personal journeys and having had his own struggles helps him be relatable to his clients. This helps Coach Brad connect in ways that others cannot. And it helps the women of Northglenn Health and Fitness feel safe with him. And the handful of guys here, feel they have an ally in this fight for health as well.

Why did you choose to Coach at Northglenn Health and Fitness?

“I would say the values here at NHF align with what I value in health and fitness and there is an authenticity about seeing our clients succeed and how much we genuinely care about the wellbeing of our clients that I appreciated here and I didn’t see at other facilities when I interviewed with them. The care for our athletes. And the all encompassing wellness approach, incorporating nutrition”

Our mission at NHF is to Coach EveryBODY to do things they never thought possible. The first of which at times is stepping into a gym for the first time. It’s scary because it’s new and it’s also extra scary for those of us who have done that before because, like what Coach Brad says above, not everyone in business is in the people business. NHF and Coach Brad definitely are about people and the “Help First” mindset.

“My modality has now merged with my passion for fitness. Even though I have a dream to have a long standing successful career in the fitness industry, my business is still in the people business. “

Where can we find you when you’re not at the gym?

“When I’m not coaching, I love spending time with my wife, Emily, and son, Austin, exploring Colorado,” Brad shares. Family adventures, enjoying the outdoors, and attending concerts—especially heavy metal—are his go-to activities outside of NHF.”

“I want to hear your stories, share ideas, and help you find your own source of strength,” Brad says. With his guidance, NHF clients are in excellent hands, with a coach who’s walked the path and is eager to support them every step of the way.
