Will you quit, or Quit Quitting?
I screwed up my entire week of meal planning.
Literally missed an entire page of ingredients when I ordered groceries.
You see, I ordered this plant based protein meal planning book and I dove into week 1 because I was so excited about it!
I told my coach, my husband, my kids. I got my family to agree to it as well.
I had time blocked off to prep my meals and have a fantastic week!
Groceries were ordered using the premade grocery list and WalMart was going to be delivering this to me on Sunday morning! I was excited, not just at the ease of having a plan made and a new book to follow, but at the price of the groceries for my family of 4 for the week. This Week 1 that I chose to start with is 3 meals, plus 1 snack, for 7 days for 4 people and was under $200. I have never done strictly plant based before so I was happily surprised!
Groceries are delivered and I’m ready to rock!
Open up the book. Week 1. Step 1. Make the Coconut-Cacao Protein Bars .
Sounds yummy! Cue me jammin’ out in the kitchen to Prince while cooking.
Let’s get out the first ingredient on the first meal that I’m supposed to make.
Dates.
Of which I didn’t order.
WTF
Next ingredient, I don’t have either.
W. T. F.
Checks the book. Doesn’t see dates on the grocery list.
Angry at book.
Bad book.
Start googling reviews of said book. Mostly all are good.
Goes back to book and ……….
turns the page.
I missed another entire page of groceries.
I have a kitchen full of fresh produce. I mean a full kitchen, I’ve got about 8 Avocados, 10 tomatoes, 2 bunches of bananas, 3 bags of carrots and celery, red onion, and on and on.. you know all the things that go bad when you don’t use them.
I realized I hadn’t had to order many, if any, pantry staples, or frozen items.
Can’t order it all if you don’t see the entire list!
All the wind was knocked out of my sails.
All my excitement, boom gone.
I’m about to Door dash some McDonald’s at this point because I’m furious at myself and ready to sabotage my first day.
Will I quit quitting or just quit?
I didn’t order that McDonald’s.
I made a mistake. One of many I have made and I know there are more mistakes to come.
How many clients have I worked with where something went wrong with their plan and I had to coach them to Quit Quitting and instead focus on the wins. Focus on what they are doing well vs what they are lacking.
Early Hint: You will never run out of things to name that you are lacking. No one is perfect, and no one ever will be. That is an expectation you have of yourself that is impossible to meet.
I know this so I texted my Coach, told Courtney about what I did. Told her I was defeated. But I told her I was going to push through. I just needed to vent.
I know she would want me to pivot.
So I pivoted.
I improvised.
I quit quitting.
I looked at the first recipe in the book I could find that HAD the ingredients I ordered and made that.
I mean I might have huffed and puffed at each passing page that didn’t fit the bill. But I persisted and found the holy grail!
It was a salad made with cabbage, shredded carrots, red onion, black beans, chickpeas and homemade dressing (of which I already had the oils needed) and it was excellent!
The next morning, this was what I put together for my breakfast.
Really, really good!
So while I had to get the groceries on the entire other PAGE that I missed…. because who has time to turn a page to double check that really was the entire list for the week….
I’m not quitting
Because if I quit on myself….
If I don’t cast this vote for myself…WHO WILL?
If I quit every time something doesn’t work out the way I planned, I would quit constantly.
After all, when was the last time something worked out just perfectly?
The good thing? It keeps me humble.
It helps us be better coaches because we KNOW what it’s like to have set backs.
We know what it’s like to have life get in the way.
But, it’s all about what you do with those set backs.
This week we are going to talk about how to QUIT QUITTING.
How to get past the All or Nothing Mindset.
I had a set back to “my plan” and found out “I’ll pivot”
I’m not going to be taken down by the thoughts in my head.
What was the last set back you had to pivot to get through?
