Do you find it hard to make yourself a priority?
Have you wondered how to stay on track with fitness over the holidays? Or even outside of December, or the holiday season any year, you are not alone. It’s one of the easiest times to make excuses to not make yourself a priority.
Why?
Unless moving your body with intentional exercise is a part of your normal routine (like brushing your teeth) it’s easy to feel the desire to skip or put off a workout when the cold weather, busy season hits, and family is in town.
At NHF we believe family is everything. Because of that, we are here to support you on how to stay on track with fitness and be around for your family for many many more seasons to come!
Your workouts, 3 to 5 days a week, should not be sacrificed when there are so many other things that grab our attention that don’t add value to our lives. I’m not going to tell you that you won’t have to sacrifice anything, because you will. Think about it this way. There are 24 hours in every single day. When you get into a consistent exercise routine it will not be because you now have a 25 hour day. Your 24 hours are used every single day just like everyone else’s and will continue to be used. Saying YES to yourself and getting in a workout means you will have to say NO to something else.
What will you sacrifice? What will you say NO to? I can’t provide you with a list of what you might be spending time on that can be sacrificed, you know that better than me. But if you don’t know, if you haven’t taken the time to think about it yet, that’s ok. Just start today! Notice how you spend your time and where you can slowly change things to make your day work around exercise vs waiting for the time to just show up on it’s own. If you need more information about how to stay on track with your fitness, contact us and one of our coaches or owners can help!
Helping people be accountable, consistent and how to stay on track with fitness is a main part of what we do everyday.
TIP: The most common way people make time is getting up earlier. While sleep is very important for a healthy you, getting up early can really help you get more accomplished and might mean an earlier and more relaxed bedtime. I don’t know about you but I never regret getting up early and always regret hitting the snooze button. Wake up when no one else is up to grab your attention or add to your list of “to-dos”.
Start today and block off an hour. Do 30 minutes of intentional movement like walking, playing with kids or grandkids, building a snowman, etc. Take the next 30 minutes to look at December and plan 13 blocks of time in which you will workout. Make these non negotiable – like brushing your teeth.
