Want a Step Challenge for Women Who Want More Energy (Not More Pressure)

March Into Spring: NHF’s Annual Step Challenge for Women Who Want More Energy (Not More Pressure)

Every March, as the days start getting longer and Colorado slowly begins to thaw, we kick off one of our favorite traditions at Northglenn Health & Fitness:

March Into Spring.

This isn’t a “winner-takes-all” fitness competition.
It’s not about crushing everyone else on a leaderboard (honestly… what even is a leaderboard? 😉).

It’s about moving more than you did before, and doing it in a way that feels supportive, encouraging, and sustainable.

If you’re a woman over 30 who wants more energy, more strength, and a community that actually cheers for you, this challenge was designed with you in mind.

What Is the March Into Spring Step Challenge?

March Into Spring is our annual community step challenge in Northglenn, Colorado, open to all NHF members.

The goal?

👉 200,001 steps during the month of March.

That averages to about 6,500–7,000 steps per day. We want it to be achievable, flexible, and realistic for busy women balancing careers, kids, relationships, and life.

And here’s the big difference… Even 1 more step than you would have done before makes you a winner in this challenge!

This is NOT a “whoever gets the most steps wins” challenge.

Instead, anyone who reaches 200,001 steps by the end of the month is entered into a raffle to win a brand-new fitness watch.

You don’t have to be first.
You don’t have to be the fittest person in the room.
You just have to show up for yourself.

Why We Created This Challenge

At NHF, we specialize in helping women over 30 build strength, confidence, and healthy habits without extremes.

We know many of our members:

  • Have tried fad diets
  • Have joined big-box gyms and felt judged
  • Have lost and regained the same 10-100 pounds over and over
  • Are tired of all-or-nothing fitness and dieting

March Into Spring is our way of saying:

You don’t need to overhaul your life.
You just need to take one more step than you did yesterday.

Even if you don’t hit 200,001 steps, taking one extra walk after dinner… parking farther away… choosing the stairs… that’s a win here.

How the Step Challenge Works

It’s simple.

✅ 1. Track Your Steps

Starting March 1, track your daily steps using:

  • Step Tracker
  • A phone app
  • Or by tracking your movement time (we provide a conversion guide to estimate steps)

No fancy tech required.

✅ 2. Report Weekly

Every Monday, participants text the gym their total step count for the previous week.

We track progress and celebrate consistency, not perfection.

✅ 3. Hit 200,001 Steps = Raffle Entry

Anyone who reaches 200,001 steps by the end of March gets entered into the drawing for a fitness watch.

Last year:

  • Kim Weatherby won the raffle 🎉
  • Lindy Olsen had the most total steps
  • And dozens of women walked more than they ever had before

And honestly? That’s the real victory.

Who Are You Walking For?

One of our favorite questions during this challenge is:

Who are you walking for?

Are you:

  • Walking to keep up with your kids or grandkids?
  • Walking to feel more confident in your own skin?
  • Walking to show up stronger for your partner?
  • Walking to prove to yourself that you can stay consistent?

Movement is rarely just about calories or steps.
It’s about energy, momentum and especially identity . Becoming a person who moves.

At Northglenn Health & Fitness, we coach everyBODY to do things they never thought possible and sometimes that starts with a simple daily walk.

Why Step Challenges Work (Especially in Spring)

Research consistently shows that:

  • Small, habit-based goals improve long-term consistency
  • Tracking behavior increases follow-through
  • Community accountability boosts motivation

March is the perfect month to start.
Winter routines fade. Spring energy builds.

Instead of extreme resolutions, we lean into sustainable action!

One step at a time.

Why This Challenge Is Different from Other Fitness ‘Competitions’

Most fitness challenges are built around:

  • Before-and-after photos
  • Weight loss
  • Public rankings
  • Shame-based motivation

That’s not who we are.

At NHF, our culture is built on:

  • Encouragement over comparison
  • Effort over ego
  • Progress over perfection

You won’t find a giant leaderboard here.
You’ll find high-fives, group texts, and coaches who actually care.
